The Recipe:
Fried Chicken Wings
Chinese Takeout Style
Ingredients
2 lbs whole chicken wings
2 tablespoons chili oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon ginger powder
3 tablespoons cornstarch reserve 2 for later
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 egg
salt and pepper to taste
vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, sesame oil, ginger powder, honey, egg, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch. This will be the marinade and sauce for the wings.
2. Place the chicken wings in a large resealable plastic bag or a bowl. Pour the marinade over the wings and toss to coat them evenly.
3. Seal the bag or cover the bowl and let the wings marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, but preferably longer (up to overnight).
4. When you’re ready to cook the wings, heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to about 350°F (175°C).
5. Before removing the wings from the marinade add the remaining flour and mix.
6. Carefully place the wings in the hot oil and fry in batches for about 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked wings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
7. Transfer wings to the serving platter. Serve the Fried Chicken Wings (Chinese takeout-style) hot and enjoy!
