What ingredients will you need?

This recipe uses simple ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store.

  • Long-grain White Rice – Chosen for its distinct texture, long-grain white rice becomes light and fluffy when cooked. The neutral flavor makes it an ideal base for absorbing the coconut-infused liquid.
  • Coconut Milk – This creamy liquid extracted from grated coconut adds richness and a distinctive tropical flavor to the rice. It contributes a velvety texture and enhances the overall taste of the dish.
  • Water – Combined with coconut milk, water helps create the perfect balance for the rice to absorb moisture without becoming overly saturated. It ensures a well-cooked and tender final product.
  • Coconut Oil – Infusing the rice with a subtle coconut aroma, coconut oil complements the coconut milk, enhancing the overall flavor profile. It also contributes to the dish’s richness and helps prevent the rice from sticking.
  • Salt – Balancing the sweetness of coconut and adding depth to the dish, salt is a crucial element. It enhances the overall taste, ensuring that the rice isn’t overly sweet and maintains a savory note.
  • Shredded Coconut (Optional, for garnish) – Adding a layer of texture and an extra punch of coconut flavor, shredded coconut serves as a delightful garnish. It provides a contrast to the fluffy rice and can be sprinkled over the dish just before serving.
  • Unsalted Butter – Adding unsalted butter can enhance its flavor and richness. Consider melting a small amount into the rice for a delightful touch.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups grain white rice
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
  • Start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch, preventing the rice from becoming too sticky.
  • In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, coconut milk, water, coconut oil, butter, bay leaf, and salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
  • After cooking, fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains and enhance its light, fluffy texture.

Optional
  •    For an extra burst of coconut flavor and texture, sprinkle shredded coconut over the cooked rice.
