Stew Pork and Beans recipe is the perfect Soul Food Sunday Dinner in a Jamaican household. Not only is it hearty, full of flavor and easy to make. But when paired with either Jamaican Style Rice and Peas (Beans). Jerk Marinade Seasoned Rice or any side dish of choice. It will make you feel good inside and out.
This stew pork and beans recipe was made with center cut pork. Lots of vegetables and butter beans to add additional flavor to gravy. Yes! it is ok to substitute this recipe to your liking. However before making any changes check out the full ingredients that I used.
What makes it a stew?
It is a stew because the meat and vegetables was cooked in liquid. And the liquid was thickened to served as gravy. Also stew is any meat or vegetables of choice cooked in just enough liquid such as (broth, wine, stock or water).
What ingredients will you need?
This recipe uses simple ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store.
Pork – I use ham center slice or shoulder (cut 1 inch thick) pork shoulder size will vary but your local butcher shop can help.
Powder seasoning – Meat season, ground black pepper, complete season, onion powder, garlic powder, ground ginger powder.
Condiments – BBQ sauce, ketchup and hoisin sauce.
Herbs & Spices – Thyme, all spice berries, ginger and rosemary.
Food browning – Use for additional color.
Vegetables – Carrots, green onions and onion.
Butter Beans – To help flavor and thicken the gravy.
How to make stew pork and beans?
Step 1
Wash clean and season pork with with seasoning listed below. Let pork marinate for 4-24 hours.
Step 2
In a large skillet. Heat oil over medium high heat until hot. Then, brown pork in batches, about 3-5 minutes on each sides removed and set aside.
Step 3
Add fully browned pork back into pan with water covered and let cook for 8-10 minutes, stir occasionally. Use a fork to test for tenderness. Once tender add more water if needed, vegetables, herbs and spices. Cover allow to simmer until vegetables (carrots) is fork tender about 15-20 minutes. If needed add more powder seasoning and pepper to taste.
Step 4
In small bowl mix 3 tablespoon ketchup, 3 tablespoon BBQ sauce, 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce. Then add to pot to help thickened the gravy. Add butter beans at this time. Cover and let simmer 5-10 minutes.

Ingredients
• 4 Lbs Pork ham center slice or shoulder (cut 1 inch thick) pork shoulder size will vary
• 1 Teaspoon freshly grated ginger
• 3 Peg freshly grated garlic
• 1 Tablespoon meat season
• 1 Teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1 Teaspoon onion powder
• 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 Teaspoon ground ginger powder
• 1/2 Teaspoon ginger paste
• 5-6 Pimento seed (all spice berries)
• 5 Sprig of thyme
•5 Sprig rosemary (optional)
•1 Sweet onion slice
•2 Green onion chopped
•2 Carrot
•3 Teaspoon food browning
•3 Tablespoon ketchup
•3 Tablespoon BBQ sauce
•1 Tablespoon hoisin sauce
•1 Can broad beans
•Salt to taste
•Water
Instructions
First wash clean and season pork with powder seasoning listed above. Second, add herbs and spices rosemary (optional). Third add sweet onion, food browning and green onion. Let pork marinate for 4-24 hours.
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium high heat until hot. Brown pork in batches about 3-5 minutes on each sides removed then set aside.
Add fully browned pork back into the pan with 1 cup of water, onion, ginger, garlic, all spice berries. Covered and let cook for 8-10 minutes, stir occasionally.
Use a fork to test for tenderness. Once tender stir in the carrots, bay leaves, scotch bonnet pepper, thyme, rosemary.
Also add more water if needed. Cover allow to simmer until vegetables (carrots) is tender. About 15-20 minutes stir if needed add more powder seasoning salt and pepper to taste.
Use small bowl mix 3 tablespoon ketchup, 3 tablespoon BBQ sauce, 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce. Add to pot to help thickened the gravy.
Add butter beans at this. Cover and let simmer 5-10 minutes. Serve with rice and enjoy!
